Beach House Bossa Nova

When critics began taking notice of the two songs that now bookend this collection, I was encouraged to create a cohesive “tropical jazz” album. The digital cultural platform Revista Arte Brasileira generously offered to feature “Beach House Bossa Nova,” the first track on this album, in an upcoming article. Meanwhile, the closing track, “Contentment on the Half-shell,” caught the ear of respected Brazilian singer-songwriter Eduardo Pastore, who described it as a “Great Bossa tune!! I like the arrangement, solid.”  Encouraged by this reception, I scoured my catalog for tracks that captured the dualistic essence of bossa nova: a smooth, whispered calm on the surface that masks a restless, complex sophistication underneath. This is the heart of saudade—that uniquely bittersweet Portuguese longing that allows a listener to navigate deep emotion without feeling weighed down. A happy way of being sad.
